The winner in the District 5 race for School Board is Torey Alston.

Well, not quite yet, anyway.

Winning a School Board race isn’t always about money, but it sure helps.

And School Board races can get expensive if there’s any real competition.

Try $150,000 or more.

All of that for a $39,000 a year job.

Alston’s Q4 report, posted today speaks volumes.

$32,000 collected so far, in money and in-kind contributions.

And already there’s power money in his corner.

The Forman family for one.  The Formans are known for financing School Board candidates and usually winners.

Ron Book for another.

Bernie Friedman and Becker, Poliakoff.

The Florida Panthers, Stiles Corp and others.

Of course, two County Commissioners have weighed in as well.

Barbara Sharief and Chip LaMarca.

As for the $150,000 line, Alston’s on track to meet that goal.

Here’s a link to his campaign contributions so far.
